Volunteer Firefighting

“The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.”  (Helen Keller)

We are always looking for new heroes, workers, and volunteers interested in training and learning how to serve in the emergency services field.

Our Department combines career and volunteer firefighters.  Everyone makes a difference in helping us reach our goal of Zero Lives Lost. Zero Property Damage.

We are always looking for men and women interested in training and learning how to volunteer in emergency services.

We want you. We need you.

And our community needs you.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer with the Calabash Fire Department, please stop by the station Monday through Friday 9-5 to pick up a paper application.

We want to help you achieve your goals of becoming a volunteer firefighter or medical responder with Calabash Fire Department.

It’s that simple.  And we can’t thank you enough!

All members need to make a firm commitment to the Department. The expectations are:

  • All members will treat others in a professional and respectful manner
  • You will be required to follow all rules and regulations of the Department
  • You will be required to attend at least 36 hours of training per year
  • You will be expected to respond to as many emergency calls as you can
  • You will need to maintain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License
  • You must not be involved in any criminal litigation
  • No drinking of alcoholic beverages or use of illegal drugs will be tolerated on the Fire Department property or when responding to emergency calls or attending training sessions
  • Profanity will not be tolerated
  • No type of harassment (sexual, discriminatory etc.) will be tolerated

The Officers of the Department will be in charge at all emergency calls and training sessions. They will provide you with what protective equipment they deem necessary and will provide the training and guidance you will require for membership.

A background check will be done on you. If any false information is found on your application, you will be terminated from membership.

You will be voted into probationary membership after attending 3 training sessions. You will remain a probationary member for 6 months. At the end of 6 months, your progress will be evaluated and a decision made about permanent membership, termination of membership, or extension of probation.

We would be glad if you decide to join us.
