About the Position

Calabash Fire Department is seeking highly motivated firefighters to join our team. This role involves protecting life, property, and the environment through effective fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, and community education.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and rescue calls
• Suppress structural, vehicle, wildland, and other fires using appropriate techniques
• Provide emergency medical care at the EMT-B level
• Operate and maintain fire apparatus, tools, and equipment
• Assist with public education programs
• Participate in training drills, physical fitness activities, and continuing education
• Maintain accurate incident reports and documentation
• Perform station duties including cleaning, equipment checks, and readiness tasks

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
• State Firefighter II certification (or equivalent)
• Hazardous Materials Operations certification
• State EMT certification or NREMT-B
• Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and department physical exam

Work Environment & Schedule

This is a physically demanding, high-risk role requiring work in extreme conditions. The position operates on a 48/96 shift schedule, which includes some nights, weekends, and holidays.
